  • "Moving Forward" by Arlene Sacks was an unbelievable help and amazing for anyone grieving a loved one, particularly anyone who has lost a life partner or anyone supporting someone who is recently widowed.

  • As a psychologist, I highly recommend this book to any woman experiencing the loss of a life partner. The process of moving forward described in this book is deliberate, practical, and courageous. In sharing her experience, Arlene Sacks offers encouragement and companionship to those undergoing this singularly lonely experience. For readers who have not lost their partner, this book may very well result in seeing one’s partner with fresh and appreciative eyes.

  • Finding resilience in widowhood. Arlene Sacks’ “Moving Forward” takes her reader on a journey no one wants to make, but will, nonetheless, when a spouse or significant other dies. Her personal guide to widowhood is a lovingly crafted roadmap detailing the incredible relationship that Arlene and husband Howard forged together, and how that relationship moves forward even after Howard’s death. She describes their myriad preparations in the face of Howard’s diagnosis; the trauma of his loss, and her coping strategies for her day-to-day life not moving on, but moving forward.

  • Arlene Sacks has beautifully written about her journey along with vignettes on other women. Each person must travel this road on a journey of their own, but the insight from Arlene and the other women gives a wonderful perspective on how they are moving forward. Each person gives insight into their personal journey. I have recommended this book to a few of my widow clients that are starting a support group. As a counselor, I highly recommend this book as a tool to help others walk this trail with support, knowing they are not alone.
